I've been disgruntled all week at the hype surrounding the recent apple announcement, and at all the iphone early adopters being pissy on message boards and tech blogs.
I found this from digg, and it made me smile. this guy is right. I'm going to go back to listening to my last gen ipod, go back to playing with my antiquated compaq notebook running ubuntu linux (which I think I might like better than osX now anyways), and laugh at not being out an extra couple hundred bucks.
A bit of advice for all those who rushed out to be the first on their block with a new iPhone and are now bellyaching because Apple reduced the price:
Get a life.
What rock have you folks been living under? Have you bought an airline ticket recently? Or have you ever haggled with a rug salesman? Or bought a case of wine on sale at the local liquor store that sold for 20 percent more the week before?
As the generation that has grown up on eBay, Priceline and day-trading on Nasdaq, you should have developed at least a rudimentary understanding of markets -- willing buyers and willing sellers and all that.
And fairness -- what's that have to do with anything? If Apple suddenly discovered that it was losing money on the new iPhones and suddenly raised the price, would you have volunteered to send a check?
I've got some news for you: Steve Jobs is not your friend. The reason he's a billionaire and you're not is that he's brilliant at selling you gadgets that make you feel so cool you're willing to pay way more than it costs to make them. His only mistake last week was letting you in on his little secret.

there are two types of people in this world. people who adore and love music, and people who just kinda like music.
I've figured out a way to distinguish the two by just a quick glance.
see, most people now have DMP's (digital media players.. ipods, zunes, zens, smartphones etc).. either because its fashionable to have one, to pass the time.. whatever.. people got em. most of the DMP's on the market are ipods. for good reason, they're stylish, have a good interface, and sound the best. yes, they actually sound the best. I've owned other media players, and they don't compare at all. ipods actually sound better than most CD players. remember, its not the media the sound is originating from (since mp3s are lossy), but the way the hardware outputs the audio from the media. I don't know how apple did it, but the ipod's audio output is amazing.
so. millions of people walking around with ipods.. how can you tell the music lover from the passive fan?
the passive fan is using these..
okay hot shot, you bought or were given one of the best sounding audio players ever invented, and you're using the stock ear buds? REALLY? they completely cut out the bottom end of the audio frequency, you miss a LOT of the definition and lots of detail that the musician/band/composer intended you to hear!
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!@
buy some real god damn headphones...
or be a passive music listener... who just wants to tap their feet a bit.
jerk.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of the Descendents and All. I was really into them as a teenager (more Descendents, than ALL really), and I actually regret "getting out" of them. Over the years I've opened myself up to music that could be considered.. well BETTER. I listened to artsier bands. I listened to bands with "deeper" lyrics. I delvedinto every facet of underground music.. looking for something that I could emotionally attach myself to. Emo (the
REAL thing mind you), hardcore, math-core, country-rock, alt-county, techno-punk.. whatever. If Punk Planet covered it, I tried it out.So here I am, in my late twenties.. and I decided to give the Descendents a spin on the old iPod (it really IS old. its the 60gb 5th generation version HA!)... And wouldn't you fucking know.. I was dead hooked. My friend Chris once told me that the Descendents were one of the most therapeutic bands he's ever heard.. and shit was he right. I know it sounds corny... but the lyrical material totally hit home.. not matter how juvenile it was. After hitting every album in their discography, I went and picked up All Live +1, which is an ALL live record on one disc, and a Descendents live record on the second. This is what got me into getting into ALL all over again.. and the Descendents disc is outstanding as well. It was recorded during their 1996 reunion tour, and the quality is pretty excellent.
One song that stuck out for me as a teenager came back and stuck out for me as an adult. Some people might say that the lyrics match me up nicely. Some people would say that.
And now, have a listen to Hope.
