fuck. lance hahn of j-church died. I'm going to dust off my copy of "nostalgic for nothing" and drink some. dammit.
from punknews
link.Founding member of J Church and all around well-loved punk icon Lance Hahn has passed away. Hahn had been comatose since Friday, October 12th following a collapse during dialysis. According to a post attributed to Hahn's girlfriend:
Lance Hahn was the lead singer, guitarist, and founding member of J Church. He also wrote extensive "punk rock history" articles for Maximumrocknroll. In addition of all of this, he found time to run Honey Bear Records. Hahn was working on a compliation book of writings on anarcho-punk bands, called "Let the Tribe Increase," to be released on AK Press.as far as the doctors can tell, this collapse was due to a sudden, drastic drop in blood pressure, which in turn was probably caused by a recurrence of the infection he had had in september combined with the stress of dialysis. he received immediate cpr from medical professionals at the dialysis center, but as it took fifteen or twenty minutes to resuscitate him, he suffered neurological damage from lack of oxygen to the brain, leaving him in a coma from which he never returned.
RIP.
my cat, so far, is on the steady pace to a state of normalcy. I feel like I can sort of get back to worrying about other things. so back to my blog.
last night my band played the capitol hill block party, and it was our "FUCK YOU, WE'RE BACK" set. we hadn't played that good or had a crowd reaction that good in such a long time. it makes me hopeful for the future. we'll be finishing our demos in a couple weeks. a lot rests on that. we'll see.
it felt good to be back.
some of you might remember might first post being about the descendents/ALL.. and no.. I'm not on such a huge Descendents/ALL kick anymore.. (lately its been misfits/samhain/danzig...don't ask).. but this song has been on repeat lately, so I thought I'd share it. it's not the best song on "Allroy's Revenge", but its damn good. you will enjoy it I believe.
oh yeah, scott reynolds was in a band with t. dallas reed (our producer and lead shredder in mos generator) a few years later. other than that, scott hasn't really done anything quality since leaving ALL. on my opinion, anyways.
I was at the pita pit having dinner, and the hippies behind the counter were rocking some lame led zeppelin live record with 9-20 minute long jams.
it was the worst dining experience of my life.
I can't stand that band. I can't stand 90% of any "blues-based" rock or classic rock.
fuck the blues. fuck art. lets rock.
thank you screeching weasel.
kane hodder update
new songs, new demos, new RECORD, seaweed tribute, and MORE!
it's been 7 months since the last blog post and quiet a bit has been
happening behind the scenes. we're happy to announce that we're almost
done writing the next record. since we took a break from touring in
support of "the pleasure to remain so heartless" in the winter of 2006,
we've seen two members come and go, we've toured japan, parted ways
with our record label, started a podcast, have had way too many
sleepless nights, and have managed to write 14 BRAND NEW SONGS, a few
disney covers (as you may have seen on youtube), and a botch cover (who
only a handful have been lucky enough to see live).
in a few weeks
we'll be entering the studio again with t. dallas reed (engineer and
producer on "a frank exploration...", "pleasure to remain.." as well as
"fantastic wounds" by schoolyard heroes) to demo the last handful of
new songs. from that point we'll be finding a new home for ourselves as
well as our next record, and hopefully getting some tours in before we
record the next record.
in the meantime, we're happy to announce that we'll be appearing on Hours and Hours: A Tribute to Seaweed, on Engineer Records. Seaweed has been a favorite band of ours for a very long time, and we're honored to be paying tribute with so many other great bands. the bands on the cd are:
--This Is Hell (Trustkill/Deathwish) [New York]
--Kover (Engineer/Chorus of One) [Canada]
--Capital (Revelation) [New York]
--Favez (Stickman/Doghouse) [Switzerland]
--Stephen Brodsky (HydraHead) [Massachusetts]
--The Draft (Epitaph) [Florida]
--Elemae (Engineer/Embrace) [New Jersey]
--Brian Southall of The Receiving End Of Sirens & Dallas Green of Alexisonfire [Boston/Ontario]
--I Am the Avalanche (Drive Thru) [New York]
--Nora (Trustkill) [New Jersey]
--Killwhitneydead (Tribunal) [North Carolina]
--The Fire Still Burns (Engineer/Koi/Blackout) [New Jersey]
--Look What I Did (Combat/Koch) [Tennessee]
--*We're All Broken/Thursday collaboration(*bandname t.b.a.) [New Jersey]
--The Story Changes (Future Destination) [Ohio]
--Worlds Between Us (Engineer) [Austria]
--Rob Avery & Chad Istvan (ex-Boysetsfire) (*bandname t.b.a.) [Pennsylvania]
--Four Star Alarm (Thick) [Chicago]
--Kane Hodder [Washington]
--Joshua (Doghouse/Immigrant Sun/Engineer) [New York]

on july 27th we'll be playing at seattle's infamous capitol hill block party, at the vera stage. please come and support us.

two days ago I found out zoinks had reunited, and I've had a smile on my face ever since... an extra "spring in my step". I discovered zoinks via my friend neil hundt in 1996. he gave me a tape with an incomplete copy of their album "bad move, space cadet" on side A, and some squirtgun album on side B. I didn't pay much attention to the squirtgun side, because that zoinks record was just too damn good.
in 1997, after I found out that lead singer/guitar player zac damon had left the band to join screeching weasel, I picked up their rarities CD "stranger anxiety".. and it continued my love for zoinks. while sporadic, a few of the songs rival anything off of bad move space cadet, and the demo version of sapsucker sluggo is amazing.
zoinks has been reunited since 2005 (link to an article in a local weekly), and if I had known about their reunion show, I would have flown to reno. no doubt about it.
here's the video for "uma 14 times" off of "bad move, space cadet"
I was going to post this yesterday, but I ended up passing out as soon as I got home from band practice.

Tony Lovato, the frontman for defunct mainstream pop-punk act Mest, was jailed on suspicion of murder in Los Angeles on Sunday. Reuters is reporting that the 26 year old confessed to police that he stabbed his ex-girlfriend's new lover. He is now being held on $1 million dollar bail.
The preliminary news reports claim that Lovato was assaulted earlier in
the day by 25 year old Wayne Hughes in the underground parking lot of
an apartment building the Studio City suburb. Lt. Andrew Neiman of the
Los Angeles Police Dept commented "At some point, Mr. Lovato produced a knife and the victim was stabbed... He has been booked for criminal homicide."
Police had visited the complex the night before due to an altercation
between the two men but no arrests were made at that time.

Damn! The "Whats the Dillio?" guy STABBED A MAN!!@#$ Are more shitty pop punkers going to turn to murder? Let's hope so!
Lately I've been listening to a lot of the Descendents and All. I was really into them as a teenager (more Descendents, than ALL really), and I actually regret "getting out" of them. Over the years I've opened myself up to music that could be considered.. well BETTER. I listened to artsier bands. I listened to bands with "deeper" lyrics. I delvedinto every facet of underground music.. looking for something that I could emotionally attach myself to. Emo (the
REAL thing mind you), hardcore, math-core, country-rock, alt-county, techno-punk.. whatever. If Punk Planet covered it, I tried it out.So here I am, in my late twenties.. and I decided to give the Descendents a spin on the old iPod (it really IS old. its the 60gb 5th generation version HA!)... And wouldn't you fucking know.. I was dead hooked. My friend Chris once told me that the Descendents were one of the most therapeutic bands he's ever heard.. and shit was he right. I know it sounds corny... but the lyrical material totally hit home.. not matter how juvenile it was. After hitting every album in their discography, I went and picked up All Live +1, which is an ALL live record on one disc, and a Descendents live record on the second. This is what got me into getting into ALL all over again.. and the Descendents disc is outstanding as well. It was recorded during their 1996 reunion tour, and the quality is pretty excellent.
One song that stuck out for me as a teenager came back and stuck out for me as an adult. Some people might say that the lyrics match me up nicely. Some people would say that.
And now, have a listen to Hope.
